Single piece 3D printable kayak (for reference only)

Category: 3D print files , Generic designs

This is the design of the 3D printed kayak that Ivan Miranda and I printed for the Prague Maker Faire. The download contains both the single and double seater kayak. It would be fun to print on a regular belt printer and scaled down (1:5 or smaller) so it can be used as a fun test print that shows the advantages of printing with a belt printer.

I am currently working on a different way of offering my designs where individual STL and STEP files can be purchased. I also offer these files on Patreon, Printables and Thangs with the option for monthly subscriptions.

You should not try to print this yourself at a 1:1 scale, please don’t. But if you do, please share some photos to show how crazy you are. Also, keep in mind that it is not stable at all in the water! That being said, this design would be fun to print on a regular belt printer and scaled down (1:5 or smaller) so it can be used as a fun test print that shows the advantages of printing with a belt printer. I think that I’m going to try that one day myself when I’ve got my regular belt printer running again. By buying this design you’re not only get a fun print to try out, you’ll become part of this journey and support the YouTube channel!

This design was printed together with Ivan Miranda on a treadmill that we turned into a big belt printer. We gave ourselves a very tight deadline where we took the 3D printed kayak from Ivan’s place in Spain all the way to Prague Maker Faire. This was one of my biggest adventures yet and one of my fondest memories. It was a huge struggle and thanks to pushing ourselves this way, we learned a lot that we can apply to future projects!

I’m very happy that I can share this with you in this video.

Printer: A (treadmill) belt printer
Brim: No
Supports: No
Nozzle diameter: 0.4 mm (we used 1mm in the video)
Layer height: 0.15 mm – 0.2 mm (we printed at 0.5mm in the video)
Infill: 20% (we went down to 1% to reach the deadline)
Filament: (Prusament) PLA

Notes:

Print upside down, so the flat top is on the belt. Scale it down and use this as a model.
