The last video in full HD has been uploaded a month ago. We're going 4K baby! Not just 4K, it's the same jump as I did from the camcorder to the DSLR.
In 2019 I bought a second hand camcorder, the JVC GZ-HD40E, for 50 bucks and started the channel. I said to myself: "If YouTube is something for me, I should be able to get to 1000 subscribers with this camera".
Back then I didn't know anything about cameras. Apparently this camera shot interlaced footage (so horizontal lines were appearing when things were in motion), I had everything set to automatic and just winged it.
After 9 months I reached 1000 subscribers and that was just right before the foldable Ender 3. The timing was perfect because the channel got monetized literally the day before I experienced the highest amount of views and subscribers I had ever seen on a video. It's hard to see, but it's the small blip that I pointed out in the image below. Everything before that point was shot with the JVC and led up to this. It took two years to beat this.
This is when I bought my first DSLR, the Canon 80D.
This has been my workhorse for the majority of videos. Later on I bought the Sigma 18-35 mm f1.8 lens which is very versatile and is made to get a filmic look out of this camera. I started experimenting a lot with how cameras work and how the video making process goes. I watched A LOT of YouTube videos on how to make videos, from the technical stuff, to lighting, composition, storytelling etc. and eventually managed to get a lot out of this camera. This videomaking process itself, including the editing, has become my main hobby.
I said a similar thing to myself as I did with the JVC, but now with 100,000 subscribers. I had to refrain myself from buying a better camera earlier and I did research on the cameras that Canon, Sony, Panasonic, Blackmagic, among others had to offer. Earlier this year I bought the Fujifilm X100VI for photography and the image quality of this camera had me captured. I looked up what they had to offer and came across their flagship, the Fujifilm X-H2S. This is what I was looking for and the website I order most gear from offered a second hand one, so I bit the bullet!
I paired it with an anamorphic lens which has been a dream of mine for several years now. I won't go into details about this lens and long story short, this creates a typical filmic look that I love. I showed this in the video and I'm very excited about this!

Ps. I'll publish the next video tomorrow (Friday the 27th) and during the making of the video I got the Fujifilm. I planned to film the video after that with this camera, but because I need some of the footage in a later video I decided to switch during the video. See if you can spot the difference!
